Mel Gibson interviewed with Diane Sawyer last week to talk about his recent DUI and run-in with the police. He says that what happened was a blessing and needed the wakeup call to take action and get sober.
However, people in the Jewish community are still hurt by Gibson’s anti-Semitic remarks. It seems that Gibson still hasn’t done enough apologizing. He still needs to do more to gain back the respect he once had. Remember, this is the man who directed “The Passion of the Christ”.
According to the Washington Post, Gibson said, "Sometimes you need a cold bucket of water in the face to sort of snap to, because you're dealing with a sort of malady of the soul, an obsession of the mind and a physical allergy."
Critics say that it was just a PR move and others think that coming forward isn’t going to help with his recovery. Nonetheless, I think that Gibson has learned his lesson now, right? Will it happen again? For his sake, I hope not! Another question - does public humiliation really work in deterring drunk driving? Perhaps for celebrities it does - but what about “regular” people?
When you’re in a high profile case like this, it definitely helps to have an experienced and professional California DUI lawyer on your side!
