This post is just another reminder of what can happen when you drink and drive....
Early this week nineteen-year-old Daniel Scott Hall pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter in a hit-and-run incident that led to the death of Christopher McCallister. Hall was under the influence and is reported as having a blood alcohol level of .23 percent on the night he struck McCallister this past June in Pacific Beach, a beach community in San Diego.
Christopher McCallister was in his last year of law school and was the “model” student - an athlete and student body president. He even established a charity for children infected with AIDS.
Hall is being sentenced to seven years in prison and his lawyer’s request to have a 90-day evaluation to see if jail is the appropriate sentence was unsuccessful. The lawyer is reported as saying, “His remorse is extreme and absolute.”
There’s no doubt that Hall won’t forget this incident. I’m sure it will haunt him for the rest of his life. However, I believe that he needs to be secluded from society so that he has time to really think about what he did. It’s one thing to hit someone while driving under the influence, but Hall actually fled the scene....
What do you think?
Incidents like this are not an everyday occurrence here in San Diego, thank God. If you find yourself in this type of situation, you definitely need a San Diego DUI lawyer...

Early this week a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy crashed into a tow truck. Deputy James Costello was reported as having a blood-alcohol level of .20 and the legal limit it 0.08. According to the California Highway Patrol, Costello is facing a charge of felony DUI and may be terminated from the sheriff’s department.
I would hope that Costello is terminated only because I believe that members of law enforcement should be role models in our society. They are the ones who should be serving and protecting and not the ones causing situations like this! Some may argue that everyone deserves a second chance, but this type of case should be the exception.
And Costello isn’t the only cop out there doing this type of behavior. There’s the cop in Nebraska who was arrested recently. Back in July I talked about the commander of the Utah Highway Patrol who was caught drunk driving.
It’s hard for me to understand how someone could go against what they are supposed to value. But at the same time I know that I shouldn’t be too judgmental when I have no idea what these people are going through!
