Jason Barber Shares His Drunk Driving Lesson

I’ve always believed that everything happens for a reason and that nobody’s death is in vain. When something bad happens to us, there is always a blessing in disguise. This is the case with Jason Barber. I came across Jason’s website, The Consequences of Drunk Driving and read his story. Jason was sentenced to six years in jail when his car crashed while he was street racing while under the influence of alcohol. His 15-year-old brother died and Jason has been paying for it ever since.

Well, Jason has used this experience and turned it into a positive thing. Sometimes it takes a huge tragedy like this for people to wake up. Jason is using his story to teach others and I commend him for it. He now travels everywhere speaking to teenagers and young adults and is in the process of writing a book. He’s even been here to San Diego and spoke at the Miramar Naval Air Station.

I know that there are many programs out there that educate young people about drinking and driving, but I feel that it isn’t enough. The parents are responsible for continuing to emphasize the importance of not falling into peer pressure.
