Don't Drink and Drive Boats or Golf Carts This Summer!

Monday, May 21, 2007
Think that you can only be arrested for drunk driving when driving a car? Think again. Did you know that you could be charged with drunk driving in a boat? How about a golf cart?

Well, that’s what happened to a man in Wisconsin this past weekend. He was driving a golf cart when he made a sharp turn. Another man was thrown from the cart and suffered severe head trauma.

Here are a couple statistics on drunk boating around the country:
  • Last year in Illinois there were 18 deaths and 79 boating accidents due to drunk boaters.
  • Missouri has the highest number of arrests for boating while intoxicated.
With many boaters in San Diego heading to the ocean these days to enjoy the gorgeous weather on San Diego Bay, it’s important to know the consequences of driving a boat while drunk…

The penalties in San Diego County for this type of action are just as severe as driving an automobile. There’s possible jail time, DUI fines, DUI programs to attend as well as driver’s license suspensions. Also, did you know it’s also illegal to drink and ride a jet ski or any other type of watercraft?

If you’ve been caught “drunk boating” in San Diego, call an experienced San Diego DUI lawyer to help you out!
