"City Jail" or "Weekend Jail" - Many police departments offer this as a choice instead of staying in jail for consecutive weeks or months. DUI offenders who choose this option come and check themselves into jail for the whole weekend.
House Arrest - the DUI offender is allowed to stay at home, but has to wear an electronic monitoring device. This is offered because of overcrowded jails.
Work Release - A partial confinement program in which DUI offenders have to work at a job site that has been given to them. In this type of program offenders are allowed to go home at night to sleep.
Work Furlough - A situation in which offenders can go to work at their regular job during the day, but after work they have to go back to the "dorm" to sleep.
Alcohol or drug rehabiliation - Many DUI offenders have serious issues with abusing alcohol. Rehabilitation versus going to jail could be better for the offender.
Sober Living Home - A living situation where offenders are assigned to all live together in a home and work together to face their problems with alcoholism or drug addiction. Most of the time the residents in a sober living home have to take 12-step classes or have one-and-one time with a rehab counselor.
I highly recommend hiring a DUI attorney in San Diego who has the expertise in negotiating jail alternatives for clients. An attorney can help guide you in choosing the best option that will work for your situation. However, if it were me, I would always recommend alcohol rehabilitation ;)
