Drunk driving is a very serious issue and shouldn't be taken lightly. If you've been arrested for a DUI, there's a chance that your driver's license could be suspended and that you could serve jail time. Here are six tips to help minimize that risk of a DUI conviction:
1. Don't get behind the wheel in the first place - even if you've had just a couple drinks.
2. Be polite to the police officers who stop you. These officers will be taking down notes and recording everything that you do or say. Your actions could be used as evidence against you in court. The last thing you want is for the officers to show the court a video of you acting crazy!
3. It is your right not to perform any type of field sobriety tests (FST). Be on your best behavior if you do decide to do these sobriety tests. You may be arrested anyways, but at the very least the police won't have further evidence to use against you.
4. If you are arrested, call a family member or a friend so that they can take note of your sobriety and state of mind.
5. Write down the details of everything that took place before and after your arrest so that you can recall them easily when/if you go to court.
6. Seek the help of a San Diego DUI defense lawyer who understands and has experience in drunk driving laws and procedures.
